At its heart is a special type of motherboard.

It is based on an electronics platform from a company named Arduino.

The form factor which you see above is based on the wildly popular Arduino Uno.

It took about 2.5 hours to build up and test, which didn't include the 20+ minutes needed to find all the parts.

How long does it take to put together? Assembly takes approximately 60-90 minutes depending on your soldering skills. With extra large soldering pads, and lots of room between components you're going to love building it.
What boards can I use with it? The Pioneer was specifically designed for any Arduino Uno compatible board. This does not work with an Arduino Nano, but the Explorer Edition Does!
What is the Expansion Pack? It's a set of sensors and an actuator which allows you to move outside the limits of the Pioneer kit and interact with the world around you. With the expansion pack, you'll be able to build the Social Distancing Kit, Halloween Prop Maker, Desktop Thermometer and Electronic Bubble Level. So far so good. The whole DrDuino concept is excellent. I have been looking into the arduino stuff for a while but never pulled the proverbial trigger until now. I have years of programming experience under my belt, so that part is not new for me. I know want to create something fun, cool and exciting. Not sure what yet, but it will most likely end up as being some type of kinetic art./sculpture. At least with this program, I have a fighting chance. :)

Haven't opened the Explorer yet. Just finished the Pioneer, and the picture is it sending Morse Code. However, it's not International Morse Code...something else. I'll have to modify the sketch. FUN

I love every bit of it. Great platform to learn about electronics and programming with much less pain than with breadboard, jumpers, loose wires, and confusion. But don't underestimate the simplicity of this tool. This is the best toy I ever got in my life. Not a simulation as I have been writing codes for two decades but interacting with the real world (not a screen and a cursor) without much breadboard and wires. Breadboard and wires were the barriers that shied me away from building circuits because I am a perfectionist who cannot stand hanging wires and loose circuits. I was up and running with my Pioneer board in 1/2 a day. It definitely helped to have experience soldering when building the Pioneer board, but I enjoyed that. I'm planning to use my Pioneer board for simple things at first, like using an Arduino I/O pin for enabling and disabling a radio frequency amplifier (by controlling the amplifier's enable pin). I'm looking forward to building my Explorer kit next.

Just received my pioneer board and working stand and I’m absolutely happy I chose this kit. Now I can begin the process to of understanding how Arduino functions. The kit is top notch, the boards are perfect as are all the components. Everything is easy to find and some components came enclosed in anti-status bags. The manual for putting the kit together is good, though I did have to contact customer support to understand the orientation of a connector used on the board. I want to use Arduino to control switches on my model railroad. I think this will be a great start.

Dr Duino's Pioneer shield is a perfect starter project for those who want to explore Ardiuno capabilities and learn more about working on electronic projects. I am a complete newbie to building a project on a PCB board. This was my first quarantine Arduino project. First order of business was to order all the materials needed to build the project. Guido has put together a very nice list of tools and materials needed to work on the pioneer and the explorer boards. Here is what first timers will learn, what tools are needed to work on an electronic project and be successful, detailed installation notes for both pioneer and explorer shields, programming language to program the shield, and superb customer service from Guido. I got impatient and started building too soon without the needed tools, many times thought I destroyed the shield, but the shield is well built and survives mistakes very well, you will learn a lot. Guido will be there to provide superb customer service. My advice would be to slow down and pay special attention to the soldering process, i.e. using flux, while soldering and practice on your soldering skills with a spare pcb board to get a feel for the soldering iron and the correct solder to use. I am looking forward to building my next arduino project with Dr Duino.
